The newest exhibit at Hennepin History Museum is an exploration of the artistic vision of three generations of Minnesota Black men. The Bond Between Us was curated by local artist and Minneapolis College of Art and Design graduate Daren Hill and features his own work, alongside that of his father Gregory Hill and his grandfather Forrest Hill, who were both local photographers. Hill also used images taken by his father and grandfather to create new works that he believes tie the bond between the three generations of artists in his family. In addition to revealing the connections in his own family, The Bond Between Us also reflects the community – both in the past and present. Some of Daren’s earliest memories are of visits to a museum with his father and exploring his grandfather’s darkroom. Hill says The Bond Between Us “shows life through a lens of grandfather to father to son.”
