Submission Guidelines
Submission deadline is the 12th of the month before the next month’s issue.
- Example: January 12th for the February issue
- Use link below to submit
- Use the form first, but if you have issues, send an email and your submission to copydesk@alleynews.org.
Optional, but encouraged!
- A sentence about yourself to go with your article.
- Photos or other graphics are welcome! We do need photo or graphic credit and permission from any individuals in the photograph, if applicable.
What to expect after submitting:
- Timely content is prioritized; if the upcoming issue is short of space, your submission may be used in a later issue.
- Articles are reviewed by the Editorial Leadership Committee (ELC) to be within the editorial policy of Alley Communications.
- All published submissions are edited for clarity and length.
Content guidelines
Accepted content
- Reporting and opinion on topics of concern to the Phillips Community, whether or not those topics reach outside of its borders.
- Creative writing and artwork, including poetry, nonfiction, flash fiction, serialized fiction, interviews, photos, artwork, and cartoons.
- Breaking news covered by national papers or other weekly/daily papers will likely not be included, but articles connecting such issues to Phillips residents may be.
- Articles cannot contain profanity and cannot do harm to a person or to a people.
- Carefully reread your work and submit a final version!
Word count (Talk to us about exceptions)
- Regular column or opinion piece: up to 500 words.
- Feature article: up to 700 words.

Corrections Policy
The alley newspaper commits to providing complete, accurate, and fair news. We encourage readers and community members to reach out if they find any errors that need correction.
These include:
- factual errors
- misspellings of importance (names, organizations, etc.)
- missing context
Errors can be reported by contacting copydesk@alleynews.org.
Corrections will be made as soon as possible online, while statements of correction will be printed in the following issue of the alley. Printed corrections will appear on page 2, unless deemed more impactful in another location.
Mistakes will inevitably happen. While we do our best to minimize mistakes; timely and transparent corrections help us fulfill our commitment to journalistic integrity.
Other ways to further the discussion are to write a Letter to the Editor, or consider writing an article from your viewpoint.
Ready to Submit?
If you only have a written submission, you will need:
1. Written ARTICLE saved in .doc or .docx format. Please include a one sentence bio of yourself.
If your submission contains images, you will also need:
2. Any GRAPHICS OR IMAGES saved as .png or .jpg (Preferably at 200 dpi or higher)
3. A separate .doc or .docx page listing CAPTIONS AND CREDIT for each image or graphic. Include a permissions statement for any identifiable people (this will not be published, but we need to have these permissions accessible) Ex. I have received permission from Jane Doe to use this photo of them.
