Ready for the 2016 Phillips Community Clean Sweep? Join Your Neighbors on October 8th ! AND”¦We Have a WINNER!

By Brad Pass A great new winning design for the 2016 Phillips Community Clean Sweep T-Shirt has been created by the imagination and talent of Jennifer Gomez. Jennifer responded to flyers passed out to area schools, churches, parks and neighborhood organizations asking neighborhood youth to compete to create the best 2016 Clean Sweep T-Shirt Design. 400 T-Shirts are given away each year at the gala Phillips Community Clean Sweep ”“ all with Jennifer”'s design. Of the many excellent entries, the selection committee chose Jennifer”'s above all the rest. Entries and Eaters welcome to 16th Annual Green Tomato Cook-Off

It will be held once again at St. Paul”'s Lutheran Church on the corner of 28th Street and 15th Avenue South in Midtown Phillips on Thursday, October 20th. The facility is handicapped accessible. Usually the first frost of the season has occurred and now gardeners have an abundance of green tomatoes. We encourage you to find a recipe using green tomatoes, make the dish, and bring it to share. We have CASH prizes for three categories of entries: 1) Sweets like pies, tarts, and ice cream (one of our all-time favorites was green tomato ice cream); 2) Savories, like stews, soups, casseroles, frittatas, empanadas, and spanakopita; and 3) Sauces/condiments, including salsas, [...]

The Alley Newspaper seeks a caller A woman left a message on The Alley Newspaper voice mail last month raving about The Alley Newspaper and how much she enjoyed having it to read. So much so that she said she doesn”'t want to risk always getting it safely so inquired about the possibility of a subscription for having it mailed. We are disappointed that her message and contact information disappeared before we wrote it down. If you called and are reading this plea, PLEASE CALL AGAIN. We don”'t want to ignore you. And, yes, a mailed subscription is possible.
