Fall Favorites with Minneapolis Edible Boulevards

by MICHELLE SHAW

What are your favorite dishes to whip up with your garden delights? Class instructor Natalia Mendez taught an awesome cooking class at the Tamales y Bicicletas Garden in September. Bean Tostadas were the star and featured many garden goodies: lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers, squash and garlic. Thank you to Seward Co-op, Herbivorous Butcher, and the Joint Green Zone Task Force for sponsoring September’s class and door prizes! On October 8, Kelly Shay of Harmonious World/Wellness will be making a delicious Three Sisters’ Salad at the Four Sisters Farm in South Minneapolis from 11am -12pm. Go to our Minneapolis Edible Boulevards (MEB) Facebook page for more information or to sign up. If you’re not on Facebook, contact Michelle at the email below for a registration link.

While boulevard gardens applications are closed until spring, there’s still a lot of activity happening at MEB. We’re excited to welcome back high school junior Janicea Coney, who will be with us as our Community Engagement Facilitator through February, thanks to a Green Zone grant. One of the ways we want to engage youth during this grant period is through the collaborative creation of an MEB logo. If you know of an established after school program that would be interested in having us share our initiative with youth and listen to their ideas for a logo, working with a local artist in the process, please contact us. This is essential to getting out our message of shared fruit in the ground – literally. This will definitely be one of my favorite projects!

Please reach out with any questions or ideas at minneapolisedibleboulevards@gmail.com. See you at Four Sisters Farm in October!
