Jurassic World: Rebirth is the seventh installment which is thrilling to say the least. While not being the best of the installments it is notably better than the previous two. I’ll give Rebirth its props for the adventure and of course, the dinosaurs. To screenwriters Michael Crichton and David Koepp, I say kudos for the work you have put in the film. Michael Crichton wrote the original novel Jurassic Park (1990) and co-wrote the screenplay for the 1993 film.

Very early in the film the exhibits of dinosaurs in the museum have fallen on hard times. The crowds that used to fill the halls are now at a trickle. Not only that, but the world governments have forbidden anyone from visiting the islands where the dinosaurs live. However, there’s a handful of people who are out to defy such notions. There’s Zora Bennett, an experienced covert operator, Martin Krebs, a pharmaceutical company representative, and Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist working at a museum. Zora uses Duncan Kincaid as her top notch navigator. They are all going after what they believe is a cure for heart disease, if they can extract DNA from three different dinosaurs.

On their way to the forbidden islands they rescue a Mexican family, led by Reuben Delgado, whose boat was turned over by an aggressive dinosaur. However, due to circumstances, the family gets separated from the other group. Both groups are now on land, still separated and facing equally perilous situations. Every move in uncharted territory can cause a hostile creature to jump out and kill and eat them.

The chemistry is quite good between the characters. The motives may be different among the group. Zora is saddened over a colleague’s death in her last mission while another character is more interested in profit over people. I went for the ride in this film and it was worth it.

Director: Gareth Edwards. Screenwriters: Michael Crichton and David Koepp. Cinematography: John Mathieson. Original Music: Alexandre Desplat.

Running time: 134 minutes. PG-13
