In their exhibit developed during the 2026 Soomaal Visual Arts Fellowship, artist nafyar
explores identity through the lens of personal memory and digital archives using cyanotype,
painting, and video installation. nafyar is interested in the effects of displacement and alienation
on memory and culturemaking; their work discusses notions of fixed linear time that have

inner world that cannot always be read from the outside. It is an archive from the artist’s life that
encourages us to accept life’s cycles, honor its connections, make space for its contradictions and
allow all parts of one’s self to exist. Jowhara Luula’s work spans multiple media, including

Winston: A Woman’s Fight for Freedom in Minnesota

Eliza Winston was the first and only enslaved person to successfully fight for freedom in a
Minnesota courtroom. Learn about her story in this exhibit based on the research of co-
curator Dr. Christopher P. Lehman and featuring historic artifacts from the museum’s permanent
collection. Also on view is a newly commissioned artwork depicting Eliza. For museum hours

Polska of the People: Hello Groove!

Roots is part of a series of juried exhibitions examining how art can bring healing by reasserting
connections that US colonial borders and systems of removal attempted to sever among Native
nations. This iteration focuses on the Midwest region and includes artists residing in the Midwest

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Class

Learn the three steps anyone can take to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an
emergency response to someone in crisis, and it can save lives. This 1- 1/2 hour class is for
members of the community over the age of 16 who want to learn best practices in suicide
