Pillsbury House + Theatre and Exposed Brick Theatre are thrilled to co-present Christopher Chen’s affecting drama, PASSAGE. Set in the fictional Country X, a neocolonial client of Country Y, PASSAGE examines colonialism, power, and the way societal imbalances affect interpersonal dynamics through the story of B, a local doctor, and F, an expat teacher, after their friendship is challenged during a fateful trip to a local attraction. A Prairie Homeless Companion

Co-Produced by zAmya Theater Project and PlaceBase Productions in partnership with Oasis Central Minnesota, A Prairie Homeless Companion shines a light on rural homelessness and housing instability. Modeled after a well-known radio show (complete with live music, bad jokes, and real stories) actors from an urban theater company find a very different reality in the community they’ve been spoofing when residents of the town take over their show and tell more realistic stories.
ASL interpretation will be provided, and $10 gift cards will be available for people bringing the lived experience of homelessness. Registration is encouraged at zamyatheater.org/prairie-homeless-companion.

Please join the Quatrefoil Library and the L Spot Shop for a cozy morning celebration of Dianna Hunter’s Clouded Waters, a mystery/romance novel set in what we now call the Mesabi Range in Minnesota. After reading from and discussing her novel, Dianna (she/her) will be joined by local author, scholar, and long-time friend, Dr. Christine A. Jenkins (she/her) for a short talk on the compelling history of mysteries with lesbian protagonists. Come for the reading, stay for the mingle! In Poetry and Singing in the Holy Ground, local poets celebrate where we come from and who we are. The audience will be invited to sing folk songs from different periods in the cemetery’s history, and students from the workshop Writing with Our Ancestors will be invited to read. Presenters include poets Dralandra and Patrick Cabello Hansel. The event is sponsored by The Semilla Center for Healing and the Arts and the “Not Dead Yet Poets Society.” Bring a blanket or a lawn chair to sit on!

This live performance by award-winning performers of Z Puppets Rosenschnoz, Chris Griffith (Cherokee Nation) and Shari Aronson also includes a sneak peek of their Star Turtle web series, nominated for “Best Family Series” and “Best Web Series” by Minnesota WebFest. Recommended for ages 4+.

Told with hand carved marionettes and a transforming cardboard box, The Box King is a family show following two kingdoms. One with a queen and a kingdom that is clean and very well organized. One with a king and a kingdom that is incredibly forgetful but full of the happiest people you will ever meet.
These two kingdoms are joined together through the marriage of their leaders. But what happens when the king loses the queen and cannot remember who anyone is any longer? Is putting everything and everyone into boxes the way to keep things organized, or is there more to an organized kingdom?
