Better Things 5×5 Reading and Open Mic

Join 5×5 hosts Davi Gray, Erin Sharkey, and Louise Waakaa’igan at Moon Palace Books as they showcase original work by five fantastic writers: Anthony Ceballos, Kyle Tran Myhre (Guante), Taiwana Shambley, Barbara Currin, and Jeannine Ouellette. Following the main reading, there will be a short refreshment break followed by an open mic.
Better Things is sponsored by ReEntry Lab, which works to connect writers and other artists leaving incarceration to a community that’s ready to receive them. Masks are required at Moon Palace Books.

Creation.Story is a group exhibit featuring artists who invoke the oral traditions and creative expressions in their Očhéthi Šakówiŋ heritage, and is a continuation of this thriving tradition. Artists featured are Jhon Goes In Center, James Star Comes Out, Mikayla Patton, Randilynn Boucher-Giago, Dwayne Wilcox, Dyani White Hawk, Marlena Myles, Talon Ducheneaux, Keith BraveHeart, Jaida Grey Eagle, Kylee Wanatee-Thunderhawk, Angela Babby, Destiny Big Crow, and Billy Janis. Swedish artist Salad Hilowle creates poetic multimedia explorations of belonging, spectatorship, and the visibility of the African experience in Sweden over time. Curated by Berlin-based curator Sagal Farah, the exhibit is a collaboration between the American Swedish Institute and The Somali Museum. Lake Street Art Drop is a scavenger hunt celebrating the culture and energy of Lake Street. Each Art Drop is hosted at a different section of Lake Street, with a variety of clues given to help you locate hidden artwork by a local artist! On July 11th, the featured artist will be Caitlin Newago.

East Phillips Park Community Feedback Gathering

Join the Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI) and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to share a meal, conversations, and give feedback on three drafted designs for East Phillips Park in the East Phillips neighborhood. The drafts were created in response to community input gathered last year from residents throughout the neighborhood.
All are welcome to join this event! Spanish and Somali translators will be available.

Calling all music lovers! ASI is hosting The Summer Singers for this free concert, which will include a cappella choral music, interactive activities, an instrument “petting zoo,” a resource fair, a Quiet Zone, and more. This event is open to all but is especially geared toward individuals with ASD, SPD, ADHD, and other disabilities who might find a traditional concert uncomfortable or inaccessible.

Pillsbury Creative Commons Grand Opening / Inside Out Block Party
