This photographic portrait series by Dawn E. LeBeau / Wanápín Sapa Win began as a way to honor one woman then grew into a visual collaboration with many from the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation: matriarchs, artists, activists, historians, policy makers, land stewards, gardeners and educators. The stories that live through the portraits document women known as the heart of the community whose collective work upholds Lakota values and guides the traditions and healing in the community. Join Alex Weston from The Hennepin History Museum for this guided walking tour that will highlight forgotten individuals in order to reconstruct a history of Minneapolis from the ground up via the lives lived by its everyday residents. The Pioneer & Soldiers Memorial Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Minneapolis, is the final resting place for over 22,000 average citizens buried between 1853 and 1919. The life stories of the cemetery’s occupants provide a fascinating and diverse cross-section of Minneapolis history from the city’s founding until its emergence as a major metropolis.

6:32 am, The First Promise is a series of large-scale oil paintings by Somali-American, Minneapolis-based painter Mohamed Hersi. Created in the stillness following fajr (dawn prayer), each canvas reflects on patience, mercy, gratitude, trust and remembrance.
