Picked up Al Neal, St. Louis bureau chief for the People”'s World online news, at the Union Depot train station.
Saturday, 6:00 a.m.
I struggled to liberate my spinning tires from the back alley”'s frozen berm. Al would make his own way to CTUL, the low wage worker”'s center at 3715 Chicago Ave. A hundred would converge outside the Hilton Hotel to call out greedy corporations.
Saturday, 11:30 a.m.
Took Al to 2104 Stevens Ave. for a MN350 orientation. Our water protectors then rallied downtown against U.S. Bank”'s association with nasty fossil fuel projects. Note: My worn ankles were not up to the task.
Saturday, 5:30 p.m.
Fetched Al from the Nicollet Diner, proceeded east on Franklin Ave., no, no, no, bridge down”¦ damn, Lyndale to I-94 east all the way to the St. Paul Labor Federation hall. The banquet heard testimony from Franklin Street Bakery workers, who in turn received solidarity greetings from the National Football League Players Association.
Sunday, 3:00 p.m.
Took Al north on Chicago Ave. to 22nd St., turned right to avoid the barricade. (The streets surrounding Peavey Park were occupied by anti-racists.) Alas, the Village Market zone was congested beyond belief by detoured traffic. Al hopped out to join the demonstration. Eventually, I escaped south on Elliot Ave.
Halftime
Found Al at the Subway sandwich shop on Washington Ave. Finished the game on my TV with lukewarm cheers for Philadelphia.
Meanwhile
