A Taste Of Phillips, October 19-21
The 5th Annual “Taste of Phillips” brings together visual and spoken word artists, poets, musicians and community actors to showcase the talent and hope of our community. The art gallery and studio at St. Paul”'s Lutheran will showcase both professional and amateur artists from the community, and allow for hands on activities for children and adults. On Friday, October 19 at 7 pm, a Poetry/Spoken Word/Music open mike kicks off at 7 pm. Saturday, October 20, from 10 am to noon will include a dedication of murals and mosaic flower planters, a walking tour of art in the neighborhood, a joint performance by Young Dance and St. Paul”'s “Semilla Youth”, and delicious snacks. On Sunday, October 21, there will be a Music Festival at 3:00 pm, followed by a “Two Cultures Supper” (Scandinavian & Mexican). Young Leaders Leading Phillips
The Young Leaders Program at St. Paul”'s Lutheran had a very busy summer, working with organizations and people from throughout the community. You can see their work in many parts of the community: New murals at Shalom Garden, at the church and on garages; flower planters throughout the community, relationships with the neighborhood strengthened. One of the Young Leaders, Reyna Urbano submitted a winning photo for the Picturing Peace photo contest: www.picturingpeacempls.com. Angela Barrera has been in the program for five years, and this summer worked with Kayla Kelsey and the Community Arts Team. She talked about her experiences at the Multiple Sclerosis Achievement Center in St. Paul: “MS is a genetic disease that takes over your body and eventually limits your ability to move or hold things.
