Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism.Yellow journalism happens in local and national main stream media all too often; yes, even in Minneapolis. It ran in the Minneapolis Tribune on September 4, 1903, under the headline, “Killed on Way to See His Dying Wife, David C. Guilford, Minneapolis”' City Health Commissioner, declared that the Spanish Influenza epidemic “does not exist in Minneapolis and never has.” That didn”'t mean that he didn”'t expect it to appear. He warned that it would probably reach the city later in the fall. One week later, on September 26, 1918, the Minneapolis Tribune reported the first case of influenza in Minnesota. Four days later, there were 150 reported cases in Minneapolis alone. By mid-October over 400 new cases were being reported in the city every day. The early cases involved soldiers or military men in training. Soldiers were hospitalized at Fort Snelling while the men who were in training on the University Campus went to the University Hospital and those from the naval training program at [...]

Alien Invasion ”“ Cinema on the Cemetery returns on September 10, 2014, with a screening of the 1958 horror/sci-fi film “The Blob.” Cemetery gates will open at 6 and the screening will begin at sundown, approximately 7 o”'clock. Taco Taxi will be on hand with their usual delicious fare. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. Admission is $8 for one film or $20 for a package of three films. Kids under 12 admitted free. Aliens will take over the cemetery again on September 24th (“Plan 9 from Outer Space”) and October 8th (“The Thing from Another World”). The film series is a fundraiser for the cemetery co-sponsored by Friends of the Cemetery and Take-Up Productions.
