Thursdays & Fridays from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm through october 14th Thrones Plaza Peavey Park, Chicago/Franklin intersection food -  drink -  open microphone - entertainment The Amen Corner open microphone community listening sessions were created by the Ventura Village Neighborhood a year ago July 23, 2011 and are held every Thursday and Friday at the Thrones Plaza of Peavey Park. Whatever the weather or season, we bring our microphones, food and drink to engage people, to hear what people think about our neighborhood and to document voices, to report their visions and concerns back to our neighborhood organization for action. We have created a culture of tolerance, safety, recovery and intermingling of youth and elders at Peavey Park and the Chicago/Franklin Intersection.

A-POD : A Partnership of Diabetics sponsors two Diabetes Breakfast s monthly (1st and 3rd Thursdays)co-sponsored by Running Wolf Fitness Center, Native American Community Clinic, Waite Hose, Community-University Health Care Center, and the Indian Health Board at Phillips Community Center at 2323 11th Ave.  8:30-10:30 with great food and always a health specific speaker and information.

Waite House Community CulinaryArts now accepting applicants

The Waite House Community CulinaryArts program is a 10-week culinary arts training and kitchen apprenticeship for young adults 16-21. Youth learn technical kitchen management skills to achieve “ServSafe” credentialing while preparing healthy meals for adults and youth in their community who lack access to nutritious food. Weekly lessons focus on issues of food justice, farm to table and local foods movement, farmers/workers rights and more. Program graduates have gone on to work at Open Arms of MN, local restaurants & catering and in the hospitality industry.  Priority goes to youth living in Minneapolis.
