Frank Reflections

BY FRANK ERICKSON

Condoning a “travel ban” on unarmed Iraqis coming to America?  How can anyone agree with such a “travel ban” after the U.S. sent thousands of armed Americans across Iraqi borders killing thousands of people and destroying entire cities like Fallujah?

Why couldn”'t the Iraqi government have put a travel ban on Americans entering their country in 2003?

It is obvious the only thing that validates a “travel ban” is the power to do it?

We are violent, nutty people in America.  We destroy Iraq, turn it into a hellhole, and then we won”'t let Iraqis come to the U.S. because we see them as a danger even though we destroyed Iraq.  It is just nuts!

Unity Prevails and Speaks Out

United support of Neighborhood”'s diverse population was the message in this rally on Saturday February 18, 2017, to protest the immigration policies of the Trump administration.  The demonstration started in Powderhorn Park where several speakers talked about the policies to be contested and worked with the crowd on chanting slogans.  The demonstrators then marched up to Lake Street and down to International Market Square and back. The participants were extremely well organized and respectful of others, not blocking traffic or disturbing area retail but simply trying to get their message heard, that the Powderhorn neighborhood is united in support of their diverse population. By Diana Back & Kaila Schoenberger

What is MOVE N”' EAT?

MOVE N”' EAT stands for Motivational Opportunities for Vitalizing and Energizing with Nutrition, Exercise, and Activity Tips. This is a free community program provided through the Phillips Neighborhood Clinic and hosted at St. Paul”'s Lutheran Church.

What kind of events do you hold?

We hold a free exercise class and a free cooking class about once per month to promote health and wellness in the community. We have a wonderful and energetic Zumba instructor who teaches this fun, dance-style exercise. At our cooking classes, we teach people how to cook a healthy meal and then we try some samples. We also talk about nutrition and tips for healthy eating.

Why is this important?

Our vision is for people to acquire and maintain healthy habits throughout their lives. The free classes and community interaction provides a space for people to learn about having a healthy lifestyle. We hope that people will take things they learn at MOVE N”' EAT home and share with family and friends.

Who can join?

Anyone is welcome to come to our cooking and exercise classes! We have child care available at the cooking classes and Zumba is appropriate for all ages.… Read the rest “MOVE N”' EAT”
