There Is TRUTH TO TELL ON KFAI About the Backyard Initiative

On Monday, July 8, from 9 to 10 am, tune into the TruthToTell radio show moderated by Andy Driscoll, KFAI, 90.3 FM, Minneapolis and 106.7 FM, St. Paul. Three CHATs (Community Health Action Teams) from the Backyard Initiative will be there to talk about the work and activities of each of their CHATs, how it fits into the overarching goals and vision of the Backyard Initiative. Sat., July 13, 2 to 8 pm The 3rd Annual Midtown Music Festival will happen at the Midtown Global Market (MGM), 920 East Lake Street, Mpls., featuring wonderful music and activities to celebrate the culture and vitality of surrounding community. Performances will occur inside of the Market and outside to the west of the MGM. This free, community-based celebration strives to: Develop a strong sense of community through the sharing of music and arts; provide access to the arts for neighborhood residents and businesses; embrace the rich diversity of the Midtown Commercial Corridor; and, assist in repositioning Midtown as a destination for shopping and entertainment. Running Wolf Fitness Center: A Wellness Dream Betrayed. Will We Save It?

By Robert Albee Quite often, I sit in our conference room overlooking the westside entrance to the Phillips Community Center. There I usually see a stream of people entering the building, standing by the door to Running Wolf Fitness Center waiting to be let inside. Or it”'s somebody leaving, having worked on their physical fitness routines. Almost everyone is smiling whether coming or going! All that could go away soon, perhaps in a month or two. It seems like Running Wolf”'s sponsoring organizations, Native American Community Clinic and the Indian Health Board are dumping Running Wolf and have quit seeing its value and it”'s profound impact on the rest of the Community. Building the program, they received considerable funding from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and U-Care of Minnesota, who invested close to $100,000 to get Running Wolf started.
