Fall Favorites with Minneapolis Edible Boulevards

What are your favorite dishes to whip up with your garden delights? Class instructor Natalia Mendez taught an awesome cooking class at the Tamales y Bicicletas Garden in September. Bean Tostadas were the star and featured many garden goodies: lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers, squash and garlic. Thank you to Seward Co-op, Herbivorous Butcher, and the Joint Green Zone Task Force for sponsoring September’s class and door prizes! On October 8, Kelly Shay of Harmonious World/Wellness will be making a delicious Three Sisters’ Salad at the Four Sisters Farm in South Minneapolis from 11am -12pm. While boulevard gardens applications are closed until spring, there’s still a lot of activity happening at MEB. We’re excited to welcome back high school junior Janicea Coney, who will be with us as our Community Engagement Facilitator through February, thanks to a Green Zone grant. Returning CHAPTER 24: TRANSCENDING

Where is the best place to jump between centuries? Or perhaps, the better question is: when is the best place to jump between centuries? For while travelling through space seems pretty straightforward, it often isn’t. Roadblocks and detours abound. Travelling through time, with the idea that you can bend time to your advantage, is both impossible and widely practiced, sometimes successfully.
Thank you to Dave and Mary Ellen for their suggestions of the liminal spaces where time travel of the unusual sort can occur! For those of you who doubt its existence, hang in there. You’ve followed the previous 23 and ½ chapters, which are in the past. You’ve wondered where our blessed family is going, which is in the future. So right now, in the present, suspend disbelief and follow along with me. I may not know where I am going, but I trust the trip will be fine.
This is a ghost story, after all. In the first novella “Searching,” Matthew Kelly Hidalgo appeared as a possible ancestor of both Luz and Angel. Raise Your Voice: Healing Little Earth

Press release from the U.S. Department of the Interior: As established by order 3404 under Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, the Board on Geographic Names has voted on replacement names for some 650 geographic features previously designated by the word sq—. Yet, those familiar with Little Earth are acquainted with the prominent signage there: END PIPELINES, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, TRAFFICKING, HOMELESSNESS, RAPE, ALCOHOLISM, RACISM, GENOCIDE. Certainly, the struggle for reparations must press forward. With this in mind, Elizabeth Royal, attorney for our Urban Farm project, believes we have a very strong case against our city’s intent to concentrate more pollution in the neighborhood… dirty air which imparts asthma, and yes, diminishes the learning capacity of our children.
Moreover, our readers know about the Pope’s recent visit to Canada with intent to heal the historic trauma meted out by the boarding schools there. But oh, Minnesota had its own boarding schools, and yes, this writer has promised to bring you the story of Cecelia (White Earth, Ojibwa). As it happened, we did share a meal at Maria’s Cafe where an interview revealed the story of Cecelia’s placement on a dairy farm, as per a boarding school’s judgment.
